Effect of Quenching Parameters on Distortion Phenomena in AISI 4340 Steel

چکیده

During quenching heat treatment, the formation of high residual stress values and presence distortion are phenomena which difficult to control accurately predict, their effects being extremely important components or pieces complex robust geometry that commonly used in industry. The latter is mainly due mixture temperature levels formed between surface cores martensitic transformation during quenching. In this research, an experimental simulated analysis process treatment AISI 4340 steel, using geometrically components, was undertaken with objective studying understanding effect parameters on distortion, generation, mechanical properties. A model applied finite elements method (FEM), entry data such as thermo-physical properties were obtained through techniques reported literature, made it possible simulate cooling under different conditions, helped explain origins quenched parts. results show a close relationship various extraction speed, immersion orientation liquid, component’s geometry. could contribute accelerating design processing routes for by taking into consideration both classic variables and, increased precision resulting from mathematical modeling, additional factors real applications.
